RSCDSはRoyal Scottish Country Dance Society(ロイヤル・スコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンス協会）の通称です。RSCDSは、スコットランドのダンスの保存と普及のために、1923年に設立され、新しいダンス及びダンス曲の出版、埋もれているダンスの発掘、公認教師の養成、サマースクールの開催など、様々な活動を通してスコティッシュ・ダンスの普及に努めています。現在、本部はエジンバラにあり、世界各地の支部（ブランチ）と一緒に活動しています。 東海ブランチもRSCDSのブランチです。

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society(RSCDS) was founded in 1923 to preserve and to promote Scottish Country Dancing.  The RSCDS delivers various types of dance classes, events, training dance teachers and musicians,  preserving the heritage including original manuscripts, and other exciting activities to promote and develop Scottish Country Dance.

The headquarter is located in Edinburgh, Scotland and there are 159 RSCDS Branches and over 300 Affiliated Groups in 50+ countries around the world on all continents (except Antarctica).

会員は毎年更新となり、期間は6月から翌年5月までです。毎年2月下旬～4月中旬頃に募集します。期の途中からの入会につきましては、年会費などご相談する必要がございますので、委員会までお問い合わせください。

The annual membership starts the 1st of June and ends May 31st. The applications for both new and renewal will be ready in late Feb and application will be closed in mid April.

どなたでも踊っていただけます！スコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンスは誰にでも開かれており、世界中で楽しまれています。

Not at all! Scottish Country Dancing is open to everyone and is enjoyed the world over, across Europe and North America to Australia and of course Japan, wherever people love to dance. 

ダンス経験もパートナーも不要です！

スコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンスでは通常、毎回違うパートナーと踊ります。社交的な要素が強く、多くの人と知り合って一緒に踊るのを楽しむダンスです。お一人でも近くのクラブに参加いただけます。

初心者を受け入れているクラブが多く存在しますのでお問い合わせください。RSCDSの資格をもった教師は、初心者にも教えられるようRSCDSで統一されたメソッドを学んでいます。

No dance experience necessary! and you do not need to bring a partner! 

Dances are "Social" occasion, and you will take a different partner for each dances and you'll meet lots of new people by changing partners.

The basic technique can be learned at our local classes by our RSCDS certificated dance teachers. Whether it is your first time or you are a seasoned veteran, travelling dancers, we welcome you all to the floor and will gladly help you through the dances. 

通常のレッスンでは服装や靴は特に決まりはありませんが、動きやすさと快適さを優先することをおすすめします。少しやってみてから専用の服装や靴を選ぶようにしても良いでしょう。

The answer is Yes and no.

For ladies, it is more comfortable to wear a wide skirt or stretchy leggings (so that you can move easily).

Some men often wear the kilt for dancing, but again it is not essential, and for classes a lot of men wear a comfortable pair of trousers.

After a few dance evenings most people decide to buy a pair of dancing shoes designed specifically for Scottish Country Dancing, soft leather pumps or ghillies, but beginners should wear any comfortable shoes with a soft non-slip sole, such as jazz or ballet shoes or canvas plimsolls.

＜服装について＞

女性：動きやすいように、広めのスカートや伸縮性のあるレギンスがおすすめです。

男性：キルト（スコットランドの伝統衣装）を着用する方もいますが、必須ではありません。レッスンでは、多くの男性が快適なズボンを履いています。

＜靴について＞

経験者の中には、スコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンス専用の柔らかい革パンプスやギリーを購入する方もいますが、初心者の方はジャズシューズやバレエシューズ、キャンバス地のプリムソールなど、滑りにくくヒールのない靴であれば何でも大丈夫です。

＜フォーマルな場合＞

パーティーやボールなどフォーマルなイベントの場合、ドレスアップを求められることがあります。

男性はスーツ、キルトのいずれかを、女性はいつもよりおしゃれをしたドレス（場合によりロングドレス）を着用するのが一般的です。

18～19世紀の社交会や舞踏会に起源を持つスコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンスは、現在も世界中で愛されています。

スコティッシュ・カントリー・ダンスは、社交と運動を楽しむためのダンスです。地元のクラブやケイリー（Ceilidh：スコットランドの伝統的パーティ）などのイベントで踊ります。

Scottish Country Dancing (SCD) is social dancing which has been danced for several hundred years in Scotland. Through the efforts of Scottish people who travelled allover the world it has become widespread in British Commonwealth and other countries.  Now it is a popular leisure pastime in those countries. Most SCD are danced with music of Scottish traditional rhythms. The typical form is a longwise set formed by 4 couples of dancers.

＜ダンスの音楽＞ Types of tunes

リール、ジグ、ストラスペイの3つの主要なリズムが使われます。ワルツやマーチが加えられることもあります。

主に使用される楽器はフィドル、アコーディオン、ピアノ、パーカッション、（まれにバグパイプ）などです。

There are three principal rhythm types used in Scottish Country dancing:  Reel, Jig and Strathspey, although it is not uncommon to find a Waltz or a March thrown in for good measure.  

When you listen to Scottish Country Dance music you will most probably hear a fiddle, accordion, piano, percussion and perhaps a bagpipe, as this is standard instrumentation for a Scottish Country Dance Band (maybe not always the bagpipe).

一番重要なのは、音楽に合わせて皆で楽しく踊ること！お互いにタイミングを合わせる努力、正しいタイミングで正しい場所に立つことを心掛けましょう。

There are many ways to do Scottish country dances, from using formal dance steps all the way through to using walking steps. All are fine, what is most important is that you enjoy the dances and do your best to keep in time with the music and try and be in the right place at the right time!
